15-YEAR-OLD CHARGED FOR THE FATAL STABBING OF ONE TEEN AND THE ASSAULT OF ANOTHER IN MOUNT VERNON. 

 

White Plains, NY – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that a 15-year-old Mount Vernon resident was arraigned on charges connected with a stabbing that killed one teen and injured another.  

 

The 15-year-old Juvenile Offender was charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree, all felonies. The Juvenile Offender appeared before Mount Vernon City Court Judge Peter Saint George Davis on April 9, 2022, and is being held in custody for an appearance before the Westchester County Youth Part Judge on April 11, 2022. 

 

The felony complaint charges the Juvenile Offender with fatally stabbing a 16-year-old on Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon on April 8, 2022, at approximately 3:55 p.m. A second victim, 15, who the Juvenile Offender also stabbed, was taken to the hospital for treatment of a puncture wound and other injuries. The identities of the Juvenile Offender and victims are being withheld due to their age. 

 

The Mount Vernon Police Department arrested the Juvenile Offender following an investigation, with assistance from the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force.  

 

“This is a terrible tragedy and we mourn the loss of this young life that was taken far too early. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families and the entire Mount Vernon community,” DA Rocah said. “My Office is working closely with the Mount Vernon Police Department to support the victims’ families and investigate this case. We will have no further comment at this time.” 

 

The case is being prosecuted by Bureau Chief James Bavero and Assistant District Attorney Matthew Martinez.  

 

The charges against the defendant are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
