The City of Mount Vernon is excited to announce the launch of our comprehensive planning process! “Envision Mount Vernon” Reimagining Our Future Together”. Our Comprehensive Plan hasn’t been done since 1968, so having an updated plan is long overdo.
Some might ask what is a comprehensive plan?
A comprehensive plan seeks to create a long-term blueprint for the community, by the community. Through a series of neighborhood conversations citywide, we will reflect on Mount Vernon’s history, its strengths and challenges, and co-create priorities for housing, land use, economic development, transit, health, sustainability, and more.
We want all of you involved: residents whose families have been here for generations, immigrants, young people, elders, business owners, homeowners, tenants – all of you are integral to this process, and we will be developing a community engagement strategy that will allow us to connect with and hear from as many of you as possible. With our qualified leadership and staff along with our consultant Shachi Pandey/MUD Workshop, I am confident that this will be a success

I had a great time with some of our Pre-K Scholars from the Mount Vernon School District during their newest curriculum theme “Community Helpers.” This is an educational bus tour of their community where they get an opportunity to see and meet people in their community. They shared their favorite activities in school and 1 gift they are most excited to receive from Santa this year. They had a ball at City Hall today!
I hosted a meet and greet with 18 of our newest Mount Vernon Police Officers who just graduated from the academy on December 9th. Hearing each of them and how passionate they are about their new career in our city, I am excited for the public safety and future of Mount Vernon.

The Recreation Department will host a recess camp during Christmas break, Mid-Winter recess, and Spring Break. The camp will be hosted at the Doles Center and run from 9 am to 3 pm during breaks from school.
The camp is for kids ages 6- 12 and costs $150 per week or a $300 bundle for all programs
