Mount Vernon Insider: LEGISLATORS WOODSON-SAMUELS AND TUBIOLO ANNOUNCE IMA FOR MOUNT VERNON.

LEGISLATORS WOODSON-SAMUELS AND TUBIOLO

ANNOUNCE IMA FOR MOUNT VERNON.

INTERMUNICIPAL AGREEMENT TO IMPROVE THE WEST 3RD STREET PUMP STATION.

WHITE PLAINS, New York ---- Westchester County Legislators Tyrae Woodson-Samuels, District 13, and David Tubiolo, District 14, together representing Mount Vernon, are proud to announce an Intermunicipal Agreement (IMA) between Westchester County and the City of Mount Vernon for the West 3rd Street Sewer Project.

Under this IMA, the County will coordinate with the City of Mount Vernon and partners in New York State Government to fund and design the construction of the West Third Street Pump Station and Sanitary Sewer Project. This project will serve to address the discharges of raw sewage and other pollutants from storm sewer systems into the Hutchinson and Bronx Rivers.  Additionally, the improvements on the pump station will serve to assist areas that are prone to persistent flooding.

Legislator Woodson-Samuels stated, “The implementation of this project is poised to mitigate the burden on the community's infrastructure. The presence of a solitary pump stationed outside Levister Towers serves as the sole catalyst for the flushing of approximately 1,000 toilets in the vicinity. This $9 million investment holds immense potential in augmenting the standard of living for all residents in the city of Mount Vernon.”

Legislator Tubiolo added, “I’m proud to support my colleague Legislator Woodson-Samuels and the Mount Vernon community with this much needed project.  Upgrading our infrastructure and sewage system is of vital importance to maintaining public health.”

Mount Vernon Insider: City of Mount Vernon: Construction to Begin on West 3rd St.

The City of Mount Vernon, Westchester County, and New York State have commenced preparations for the upcoming sewer rehabilitation project at the 3rd Street Borehole Pump Station on W. Third Street between S. Seventh Avenue and S. Ninth Avenue. Over the past 18 months, all agencies have worked diligently to install a temporary bypass system, coordinate engineering resources and allocate funding to address the rehabilitation of this major sewer issue. We are installing additional road barriers to prepare for the upcoming construction work scheduled to begin within 1-2 weeks. The anticipated construction period until completion is 9 - 12 months.

Residents are advised to expect; increased "No Parking" Areas and Traffic Pattern Disruptions, Intermittent Street Closures for Construction Equipment, Construction Noise, and Workforce from Multiple Contractors and Agencies. During the duration of this project, W. Third Street between S. Seventh Avenue and S. Ninth Avenue will be converted into a one-lane westbound. For any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact dpwsewers@cmvny.com or 914-665-2339. #CMVNY

Mount Vernon Insider: City of Mount Vernon: 2023 Campaign Trail: Richard Thomas Democrat for Mount Vernon Mayor: Satisfied with Mount Vernon's Nightmare Conditions? NO! Reject the Status Quo! Redeem the Thomas Promise!

Dear Mount Vernon,

We must WIN the future!

The sad truth is the current administration created losing conditions that made Mt. Vernon dangerous, dirty, and deadly. No one is satisfied with this nightmare version of our beloved community.

It’s clear that our community is at a crossroads to determine the best way forward for safety, sustainable growth, and empowerment for all the citizens of our city. It’s time to make Mt. Vernon safe, clean, fun, and work for you again!

I have a proven vision, proven plans, along with the compassion, courage, and competence in changing Mt. Vernon for good. From new bridges to revitalizing parks to fiercely protecting the people, I have been in the fight… and it wasn’t always easy.

I’ve spent these last few years reflecting on my term as Mayor. And while I will be the first to admit that my tenure had its challenges, I believe what I experienced has positioned me to understand how we as a city can come together, use what we have, and move forward to redeem the American dream.

As I seek a second chance as Mayor, I ask for your vote, support, and signature to get on the ballot for Mayor in the upcoming Mt. Vernon Democratic primary election on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

Accordingly, if you are a registered Democrat in Mt. Vernon, or know a registered Democrat in Mt. Vernon that wants to support my candidacy, please call us at 914-297-8789 or email us at info@votethomas.net to connect on signing our Democratic petition as soon as possible.

In the days ahead, I look forward to discussing in detail some of my top priorities that include:

• Public Safety
• Tax Reform
• New Parking Garages
• Senior Services
• Climate Change
• Green Housing
• Smooth Streets & Pothole Patrol
• Sewers, Bridges, & Sidewalks
• Real Economic Development
• Youth Sports & Tech Engagement

On Day 1, immediate action will be taken to reactivate the Police School Resource Officer program to stop active shooters and push back on bullying in schools – both online and offline. We will bring back the Mt. Vernon Animal Shelter and reopen the Senior Center and Rose Y programs-which services differently abled people-that were shut down and abandoned by the current administration.

Under my proven economic policies, we will expand the tax base (again) with thriving businesses that produce hundreds of jobs and roll back the middle-class crushing Patterson-Howard taxes on water, sewers, and sanitation. Additionally, we will get illegal guns off the streets and crack down on crime to secure public safety. Let’s Restore Order and Reignite Growth for the People of Mt. Vernon!

Against all odds, we did it before… and by working together we can do it again.

Join us and help us make Mt. Vernon the City of Happy Homes again!

Sincerely,

Richard Thomas

Mount Vernon Insider: Andre Wallace: DO YOU FEEL SAFE? - MOUNT VERNON CRIME IS OUT OF CONTROL!

We can no longer hide from the unfortunate reality; crime is out of control in all areas of Mount Vernon. As a result, our city has become dangerous. From stolen packages and automobile break-ins to gun violence and murder, residents of Mount Vernon are forced to live in fear daily. It is inexcusable and unacceptable.

Once elected, I will:

  • Invest in the development of our youth with mentoring programs, counseling, and job skill training. It works! After founding the first accredited construction trades school in Mount Vernon, over 1,400 students secured union jobs and elevated their circumstances.

  • Ensure Mount Vernon becomes a business-friendly location--unemployment factors into high crime. Our city lacks the necessary business development to compete with our surrounding municipalities. Companies relocating to Mount Vernon will employ our residents with livable wages. In addition, corporate and sales taxes will fund job training centers to give the unemployed the necessary skills to obtain good jobs.

  • Create a support network for formerly incarcerated citizens to assist in housing, counseling, job training and employment.

  • Create a comprehensive plan with county, state and federal law enforcement agencies to remove illegal guns and other illegal activity off the streets of Mount Vernon.

  • Hire 40 additional Police Officers within the first 18 months of my administration to effectively increase police presence.

  • Change police department work schedule from rotating shifts to steady tours promoting officer wellness and reducing overtime cost.

  • Negotiate salaries and benefits for our Police Officers to be compatible with other municipalities to prevent the continuous "badge drain" of our police department.

  • Review police policies, procedures, and training to ensure MVPD operates within National Policing Standards.

  • Obtain grants for city-wide security cameras and gunshot detection systems.

My top priority is to ensure all Mount Vernon residents are safe

"So let's work together for a better Mount Vernon!"

Mount Vernon Insider: City of Mount Vernon: Andre Wallace: TAXES KEEP INCREASING!

Enough is enough! We can't accept higher taxes and higher crime any longer. Let's work together to provide a safer city for all who visit, work, play and pray in Mount Vernon. We deserve a better quality of life with the safety and security our families deserve.  Please sign my petition to get on the ballot.
