TWO MOUNT VERNON MEN SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON ON ROBBERY CHARGES.
White Plains, NY – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that two Mount Vernon men were sentenced to state prison on charges connected with a 2020 robbery.
Marcus White, 29, was sentenced on April 1, 2022, to 16 years to life in state prison. White, a persistent violent felony offender, was convicted after trial of three counts of Robbery in the Second Degree, a violent felony. Co-defendant Brian Rivas, 28, a predicate violent felony offender, pled guilty to Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a violent felony, and was sentenced to five years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision.
On December 29, 2020, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the victim was walking on South 13th Street in Mount Vernon when she was approached by the defendants from behind, shoved to the ground and had her purse stolen. During the incident, White displayed what appeared to be a firearm.
After observing White looking through the victim’s wallet, which was recovered, Mount Vernon Police arrested the defendants shortly after the incident and seized a BB gun from White.
The case was before Judge Robert Neary in Westchester County Court, and was prosecuted by Deputy Bureau Chief Dan Flecha.
